The Holiday Whoopie

Title: Making Whoopie by Sara L. Hudson

Genre: Romance

Rating: 4/5

Book 3 in the Hideaway Harbor series is “The Holiday Whoopie” by Sara L. Hudson. I am having so much fun with this series — it’s the perfect mix of holiday cheer and spice wrapped in a literary package. This time, we have a Hollywood hotshot lawyer meets a small-town baker with a touch of enemies to lovers.

I had the exciting chance to read this book before publication. Let’s dig in!

The Holiday Whoopie

Holiday Euphemisms, anyone?

This book is chalk full of holiday euphemisms, starting with Audrey’s bakery being named Making Whoopie. You can see where I’m going with this. Hudson is a witty writer, for sure, which made this an enjoyable and fun read. Our main character, Jack, was the biggest culprit of these holiday euphemisms.

Overall, I liked the dynamics between Audrey and Jack. They were, seemingly, complete opposites that just worked when they got together. However, the relationship seemed a little too rushed for me. I wouldn’t categorize this as insta-love, but I’d say it’s insta-love adjacent. I don’t really know what drew them to one another, as we didn’t really know too much about Audrey. She was a closed book in the story. I think Jack’s character was fleshed out really well to the point where I felt like I knew him and his feelings. Despite this, the tension between them were spicier than some of the whoopies Audrey baked. PHEW!!!

“The Holiday Whoopie” was a super quick read. It’s perfect for a these cold weekends approaching as we near the holiday season. I read this book in just two days! It was a sweet, fun read that had me laughing as I turned the pages. Plus, Jack was a true book boyfriend who would do anything for Audrey, and he truly did in the end. Boyfriend goals, you guys.

I wish we would have gotten more of a story with Audrey’s mom because I was intrigued by that storyline. What I loved was seeing more of the characters from the previous Hideaway Harbor series, like Portia and Amanda from book 1. The author did a good job with weaving in these characters into Audrey and Jack’s overall storyline!
