Synopsis: A young girl named Heidi who lives with her mentally challenged mother, travels alone across the country to learn the truth about her and her mother’s past.
So B. It is a coming of age story about a young girl, Heidi, searching for her identity in a world that’s left no clues about who she is… until a single roll of film ignites the first spark that leads her to all the answers she’s been searching for. It’s excellent storytelling, full of heart and innocence, and audiences will be rooting for her the whole way. The film is also about family – both the one you’re born into and the one you create for yourself, and also the one that circumstance throws your way.
I really liked that the film highlights mental illness, and that it’s told in an appropriate manner. The struggles the women in the film have with their mental illness is realistically portrayed and the film does a great job of showing the daily struggles one goes through with such an illness. As a result, Heidi has had to grow up very quickly and navigates the world boldly as she goes on her quest for answers.
Excellent acting all around, especially Heidi, the young girl whom the film centers around played beautifully by Talitha Bateman. It’s a sweet film that highlights human connection in even the most unsuspecting places. If you’re looking for a heartwarming film with a beautiful story to boot, look no further than So B. It.
