With Thanksgiving and the holidays just around the corner, it was only fitting for this month’s correspondence with CIDER SKY to reveal that their latest single was truly a family affair! Shridhar’s brother, Sidh Solanki, participated in both writing and recording “Flavor Like You.” Simon, who has a fine arts degree in drawing and painting, produced the song’s artwork stating, “(I) have been making some collages lately in order to exercise my other creative muscles/engage in a different type of self-exploration.”

Here is the rest of this month’s interview!:

HNS: What is “Flavor Like You” about?

CIDER SKYIt’s about life before your person shows up. The loneliness and dreaming before love.

HNS: Do either of you have any special Thanksgiving traditions? Any memorable ones you wish to share?

CIDER SKY: Thanksgiving is the best. A whole day set aside to give thanks! We don’t have any unusual traditions, but you can bet we’ll be surrounded by loved ones around a hot Tofurkey!

HNSDo you have any advice for young musicians just starting out?

CIDER SKY: The biggest thing is commitment. Music will ask everything from you. You need to choose it for the right reasons. You may not get what you wanted (fame! riches! hot babes! a garage full of vintage cars!), but if you chose it because it brings you joy, then you can’t go wrong.

HNSWho or what do you think has had the greatest influence on your music?

CIDER SKYIn different ways we were both influenced by our environments growing up. Shridhar’s parents believed in his talent and helped foster it. At Simon’s house there was a huge vinyl collection and a drum kit in the living room. Two totally different paths, both leading to a similar place.

HNS: If you each could only listen to one song for the rest of your lives what would it be?

CIDER SKY: That’s such a difficult question to answer! Simon really loves the chord changes in ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley, and the lyrics to ‘Flightless Bird, American Mouth’ by Iron & Wine. Any chance we could combine them?!! Shridhar hasn’t made up his mind yet, and is hoping that he never has to!

“Flavor Like You” is available on iTunes November 18th and watch for it to be released on CIDER SKY’s Youtube channel as well! Also, check back next month when we discuss Track #5 of the 12|4|12 project!
