‘The Fate of Ophelia’ music video review: Aesthetically pleasing and catchy

Taylor Swift released the music video for The Fate of Ophelia, and I am OBSESSED. It is the first music video from “The Life of a Showgirl.” This may be one of her best music videos to date — it’s so beautifully crafted with dazzling and aesthetically pleasing visuals. Not to mention, the choreography is so catchy that I find myself casually doing the chorus dance around my house. You know, just normal girl things.

In the album release movie, Swift mentioned that the music video illustrates the different types of showgirls through different decades. When Taylor Swift does a music video, she does it big. She’s no stranger to elaborate, visually-appealing music videos. It’s almost a cinematic experience, and The Fate of Ophelia was no different. She takes us through different decades and locations that make you believe you are no longer in 2025. It started out with what would appear to be Ophelia and transcends throughout the whole video to new perspectives and visuals. It then ends with Swift in a bathtub, almost appearing to be drowning, which is a callback to Ophelia in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Ophelia went mad thanks to Hamlet’s mind games, which resulted in her drowning herself. Swift did a wonderful job in illustrating Ophelia’s fate in just four short minutes.

The dance choreography was top-notch, as I would have expected, as Mandy Moore who choreographed the Eras Tour was also involved in the music video. The costumes were so vibrant and screamed showgirl that I could not take my eyes of any of them. Overall, everything about this music video made it into my top 3 favorite of Taylor Swift music videos. I can’t wait to see which song she does next!

I also would be remiss if I didn’t mention the masterpiece of the sourdough bread featured that Swift baked herself — I fear it may have stolen the show! And what I loved most about this music video is the nostalgia of seeing all Swift’s dancers and background singers in it. It brought me back to the Eras Tour.
