The raven-haired, pig tailed, sharp tongued, genius super sleuth, Wednesday Addams, returns to Nevermore after a productive summer of hunting down an infamous serial killer for fun. After saving the town of Jericho and Nevermore Academy, she finds herself investigating and going on newer adventures, newer monsters, old and new foes and darker secrets, family drama and secret origins that will change the Addams family and Nevermore Academy forever.

Wednesday finds herself in unfamiliar territory when she returns as a hero to everyone at Nevermore Academy and outcasts everywhere, which makes her extremely uncomfortable and hilarious as the more she fights against this acceptance of her heroics, the more love she gets, even gaining dedicated fangirls and boys. This time Wednesday, Enid, Eugene, Ajax are joined by Pugsley Addams in his freshman year at Nevermore Academy, much to the displeasure of Wednesday whom assigns Eugene to look out for him as she has her own pressing new mysteries to investigate. Ever since she was blessed with the ability, she has been honing her Psychic Vision– whenever Wednesday touches someone, she has the power to see what happened to that person and other parts of the individuals life, but she has been pushing her powers to the limit, testing herself physically and mentally. Things take a turn when she sees a vision of Enid’s tragic end which makes her more determined to solve this mystery, but unfortunately the ability stops functioning, so she has to rely on her natural abilities, leaving Wednesday unable to rely on her supernatural ones. We are introduced to new principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) who is a pyromancer (ability to control, manipulate and create fire). We explore more of the Addams family mysterious past with the introduction of Wednesday’s grandmother and Morticia’s mother Billionaire Hester Frump played with delicious glee by legendary British actress Joanna Lumley.

We begin to explore the mysterious origins of ‘Thing’ and how he is connected and his desire to seek more answers about his past, which opens up up a whole cupboard of skeletons that connect Jericho, Ophelia Frump, Isaac Night, The Galpin family, Nevermore Academy and the Addams family. Below are highlights of my favourite and standout episodes with clips from the episodes on Netflix’s YouTube channels.

Call of the Woe : Season 2 Episode 3

Wednesday engage in a physical battle of wits in an Addams family tradition called a ‘duelo-a-ciegas’ that goes back generations in a blindfolded sword fight, in a exhibition of grace, power, and athletic ability. The battle is over Goody Addams book of spells (the Codex Umbrarum) which will help Wednesday gain her powers back, which Morticia is against, as the psychic powers drove Morticia’s sister Ophelia to madness, a fate she fears for her daughter Wednesday. Morticia wins the fight, much to Wednesday’s anger and frustration, and decides to burn the book.

Woe Thyself : Season 2 Episode 6

We are treated to a very Freaky Wednesday episode when best friends Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair swap bodies to truly find out how each others lives are and to get empathy for each other, but they are on a time crunch – if they do not fully embrace each other from these perspectives before midnight, they will both lose their lives. A wonderful combination of danger and hilarious comedy by both Emma Myers and Jenna Ortega. Wednesday dancing to the South Korean global superstar K-POP girl band Blackpink in multi-colour clothing with Enid Sinclair speaking fluent Filipino dialect of Tagalog in a typical Wednesday deadpan are amazing, showcasing both actress’ acting range.
