Album Title: “Man’s Best Friend”
Artist: Sabrina Carpenter
Rating: 4/5
A lot of people are giving “A Man’s Best Friend” so much grief, but they don’t realize that this is exactly what Sabrina Carpenter intended. While she’s one of the queens of pop, she also can’t be taken too seriously, and I am perfectly okay with that. I don’t need deep songs like Taylor Swift to appreciate an album for what it is: just pure fun. Sure, it’s risqué and pushes boundaries, but that’s Sabrina Carpenter. What were you expecting?
Altogether, the album is so much fun! It’s perfect for a girl’s night out or a dance party at home. The album’s sound definitely has the Jack Antonoff touch that’s familiar in Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey’s and etc. albums. The album can be categorized solely as pop, but there’s a slight hint of country twang, especially in “Go Go Juice” and “Manchild.”
Songs like “Tears,” “When Did You Get So Hot?” and “House Tour” are the songs on the album that would be perfect for a tour to get everyone dancing and singing along. Carpenter’s songs are filled with double entendres that make you wary of listening to them in public and maybe will make you clutch your pearls. However, if you don’t take it too seriously, the album is filled with fun bops.
I do wish there were some deeper songs with more meaningful lyrics and storylines, though. This isn’t a dealbreaker for me because I am a pop music girl, but I can see why some people were critical of this album. She does lean heavily on the provocative theme, and this could get old real quick. However, I think Carpenter enjoys pushing the envelope in that aspect. As I said before, it’s an album that isn’t meant to be taken too seriously.
“Short and Sweet” was a superior album compared to “Man’s Best Friend,” but I still like this album. Carpenter’s vocals are, as always, awesome. She really has the voice for country — maybe she can pull a reverse Taylor Swift and do a country album in the future. “Tears” and “Manchild” were the best singles off this album, and I’ll be curious to see if she chooses another single from this album to highlight.
Now, hopefully I’ll be able to snag some tickets for this tour…Totally bummed I lost the Ticketmaster battle for “Short and Sweet” tour.
