On summer of July 18th 2024, part one of the final 6th season of Cobra Kai was released, followed by part two on November 15th 2024. It picked up a few months after season 5, Terry Silver had been exposed publicly by Daniel, Johnny and their students for the evil melomaniac he was. But the story was not over as now the students of Myagi Do have to get ready and prepare for their training to compete in the World Karate tournament Sekai Taikai. It will be the hardest battle that any of the students have experienced. They meet foes old and new, and reform new and old alliances. Relationships will be tested along with longtime friendships and bonds formed. A highlight was the fight between Mike Barnes and Johnny Lawrence – something that had been dreamed and theorised by the fandom for decades. William Zabka and Sean Kanan did a great job as they have both trained in the martial arts in real life and are quite proficient. The Sekai Taikai is a obvious tribute to legendary martial arts films, Bloodsport(1988) and Best of the Best(1989) which is referenced continuously throughout season 6.
Miyagi Do Karate
Daniel and Johnny find out that not everybody in the Dojo will be competing. Not only must they train their young students but also, maintain team harmony. One of the highlights is when Johnny, Daniel and Chozen recruit ‘The Bad Boy of Karate’ Mike Barnes to help train the students which proves to be great viewing and comedic, and a fascinating look at the legacy of The Karate Kid, that all of Daniels old foes and enemies are his closest allies and friends.
Cobra Kai-Korea
Kreese flies to Korea to reconnect with Sensei Kim and convinces her to compete at the Sekai Taikai to finally take Cobra Kai to the world stage. We are introduced to Sensei Kim and her best students such as Kwon the athletic, high flying and cold hearted fighter the most naturally gifted at the tournament and his 2nd in command Yoon whose ruthless, calculated and the ultimate soldier of a fighter will lead Cobra Kai Korea to conquer and destroy any dojo that gets in their way without prejudice and without mercy.
The Iron Dragons
The Iron Dragons are the reigning world champions undefeated for years under the tutelage of former champion Feng Xiao aka Sensei Wolf, a world renowned dojo out of Hong Kong who rules with a Iron Fists, and is relentless with his students from around the world led by his unstoppable champions Zara Malik who I dubbed the ‘Iron Lady’ of the Iron Dragons due to her deceptive power, agility and durability, elegance, grace which are matched by her arrogance. Axel Kovacevic who’s around 6’3 powerful, stamina, relentless, almost impenetrable counters and defense and cyborg like demeanor is very intimidating to his foes and opponents. But behind this are individuals who are still young people and have fears and vulnerabilities like all of us.
