The irony is that 2025 in the Chinese calendar is the year of the snake. So it was very serendipitous that the 6th and final season of Netflix’s smash hit show Cobra Kai would bow out on the year of the snakes 2025. We pick up months after the tragic brawl that took place in Barcelona at the Sekai Tekai world karate tournament, when Cobra Kai Korea’s team captain Kwon tragically got killed as he was impaled on the Eunjangdo blade John Kreese mistakenly dropped on the mat. The tournament had been suspended, with everyone involved traumatised by the events – especially Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. After a long meeting and collaborations with Gunther the head of the tournament, officials, Daniel, Johnny, and Terry Silver, who now owned the Iron Dragons dojo, a compromise was reached to stage the finals in Reseda California, home of the All Valley Tournaments. On the women’s side you had reigning champions the Iron Dragons the defending champions who were undefeated for years with Queen of Karate – Zara Malik (Rayna Vallandingham) the high kicking fighter and the giant seemingly unbeatable giant Axel Kovacevic (Patrick Luwis) coached by the ruthless and cold-blooded Sensei Wolf (Lewis Tan). Samantha LaRusso representing Miyagi Do with Robby Keene and finally ‘The Queen Cobra’ herself Tory Nichols.
Things take a turn as Robby is brutally injured by Axel and is unable to continue; and Samantha forfeits as she feels she has proved her worth to herself and is at peace. Everything comes full circle when we see Queen Cobra – Tory Nichols, El-Serpiente (The Snake) – Miguel Diaz as team captains make an awesome entrance to ACDC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ with Johnny Lawrence returning as their Sensei, the original Cobra Kai back together, which is a powerful scene and emotional for fans of the show. Johnny finds out that the sensei’s compete also as he takes on sensei Wolf, somebody who outmatches him in physicality and youth. Silver and Kreese have one final showdown, Johnny, Tory and Miguel must not only defeat their greatest opponents, but conquer their deepest fears and exercise personal demons to not only become the best of the best, not only world champions but become the best versions of themselves, by striking first, striking hard and showing no mercy. It has been an amazing ride, privilege and pleasure covering Cobra Kai, I just want to say thank you to you all who have read and viewed all the content and that this is not a goodbye, but see you later…..Cobra Kai Never Dies.
