Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) is in talks to star in a remake of the classic film Papillon alongside Charlie Hunnam.
The original film was released in 1973 and starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman and itself was an adaption of the autobiography by Henri Charrière. If Malek signs on the dotted line he will play the character Louis Dega (played by Dustin Hoffman in the original). Things are moving fast with production set to start in September.
The film will be updated with a contemporary setting and will tell the story of Henri Charriere a petty criminal from the Parisian underworld who was unjustly convicted of murder in 1930s France. He staged an epic escape from Devil’s Island, a notorious penal colony in French Guiana in South America, aided by quirky counterfeiter Louis Dega.
