Black Adam the main antagonist of DC’s Captain Marvel is set to get his own film starring Dwayne Johnson.
The project is from DC Entertainment and New Line Cinema and will serve to introduce the villain turned anti-hero who has long been known as one of Johnson’s favourite comic book characters. Johnson was previously set to appear as Black Adam opposite a Captain Marvel/Shazam in a film around that character. The plans have changed however, believed to be partly as a result of Dwayne Johnson’s rising status as a leading man.
One of the oldest comic characters around, Shazam was originally known as Captain Marvel. The stories centered on Billy Batson, a teenager who becomes the superhero when he utters the magic word “Shazam!” The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Aries, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury. Black Adam has similar powers and was given them before Billy Batson.
