Here is a new poster and trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Side Effects’.
Open Road Films has released a new trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s psychological thriller Side Effects. The film stars Rooney Mara as a troubled young woman who develops a dangerous love triangle between her doctor (Jude Law) and her newly paroled husband (Channing Tatum). The engaging thriller aspect of the film is still very effective in this trailer, but we also get a better look at some of Soderbergh’s gorgeous camerawork as well. Can we all mount a last-ditch effort to stop him from retiring?
In an interesting interview with The New York Magazine – one filled with no little angst at the current state of Hollywood – Soderbergh explained that his new thriller was of the unplanned variety and had its roots in ’80s thrillers. “[It came together] because another film, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., blew up. I watched Fatal Attraction a lot. That’s a very well-directed movie. The eighties was a terrible decade for American films, with a few exceptions in the independent world. It’s basically when the corporations took over. And one of the few, to my mind, interesting aspects of the decade were these psychological thrillers that popped up.”
The film also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones. Side Effects opens on February 8th.
